Year of Living Jewishly

Picture
One of the great injustices done to our children is that we educate them until their bar mitzvah, and we expect that the teachings and values and moral lessons of Judaism, that were taught to them as children, will be sufficient to carry them throughout their adult lives. There is a good reason that we are commanded to study Torah all the days of our lives, so that as we grow and mature the relevance of Torah and Mitzvot grows and matures along with us.

The Year of Living Jewishly program (YLJ) wants to remedy this injustice by reintroducing the basic concepts of Judaism to groups of Bnai Mitzvah students. YLJ will help them to reconstruct the lessons and values of Judaism in an age-appropriate manner through participatory lessons.

Our Mission

It is the vision of Rabbi Yossi Sapirman to introduce Bar/Bat Mitzvah aged children to the principles of Judaism, by not merely learning about its values, but by living them as well. Rabbi Yossi's novel approach to this program will provide our students with a rewarding appreciation of Jewish culture and heritage, and a memorable Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience.

The Program

The curriculum provides a progressive, egalitarian and challenging approach to teaching and learning Judaism. The Year of Living Jewishly is a program for Bar/Bat Mitzvah aged children which stresses that this is the first year of their adult education, not the last year of their childhood education. We actually treat them like adults, and their Judaism is experienced as an adult.
